Tips on Storing and Handling of Edible Image®
Designs |
| Edible Image®
designs are a completely edible decoration for decorating all types of
cakes. It is a moisture sensitive product made entirely of food materials.
When placed on icing, it absorbs moisture and becomes soft, blending with
the icing. Edible Images® must be stored in the enclosed sealed package.
When not in use, always reseal the package. |
|
|
|
|
| Before
Application |
- Keep Edible Image® in the sealed bag until
ready to use.
- If your area experiences HIGH HUMIDITY,
store unused images in the zip-lock bag, in the freezer.
- If your climate is EXTREMELY DRY, store
unused images in the zip-lock bag, in the refrigerator.

|
| Handling Edible Image® Designs |
- Make sure your hands are clean and dry
before handling the image.
- If cake is frozen, thaw slightly before
icing to avoid cracking. Then apply the image.
- If buttercream has formed a crust, spray
with a FINE mist of water before applying the image.
- DO NOT ADD extra moisture to non-dairy
whipped toppings. Keep finished cakes refrigerated to extend shelf
life.
- Add a generous mist of water over "royal
icing" before applying an image.
- If the image "bubbles" after application,
GENTLY TAP (do not rub) the image.
- Feel free to write inscriptions on top of
the Edible Image®. Just be sure not to puch the decorating tip through
the image.

| Image
Application |
- When cake is iced, unseal package. Remove
the Edible Image® from the backing sheet by gently
peeling the backing away. Removal is made
easier by placing the backing sheet on a table edge (with the image
facing up) and rolling the backing sheet over the sharp edge of the
table.
- Lay the Edible Image® in the desired
position on the freshly iced cake.
- Gently smooth edges with fingertips, as
needed.
- The cake may be frozen after it is decorated
with the Edible Image.
|
|
| After
Application |
- If the decorated cake is frozen, thaw
slowly, preferably in a refrigerator, to avoid running of
colors.
- Avoid extensive exposure to ultraviolet
lighting. As with any food coloring, the image will fade over
time.

|
| Half Sheet Edible
Image® Handling Directions |
- Prepare your cake as usual.
- Loosen your half sheet Edible Image®
design.
- When it has loosened from the backing paper,
hold the image loosely on the backing paper and center on the
cake.
- Gently slide the image off one side of the
backing paper and tap onto the cake.
- Then slide the backing paper out from
underneath the rest of the image.
- Another tip: Always keep a sheet of backing
paper handy. Use it to slide between an image and its backing to
facilitate lifting the image.
|
|
| Applying Images to Ice Cream Cakes |
- If iced with non-dairy whipped topping, DO
NOT add any additional water or water spray to apply the
image.
- If applying directly to ice cream, it is
best to allow the ice cream to "sweat" a bit before applying the image.
Or, mist the ice cream with milk before applying the
image.
- If you are working with soft-serve ice
cream, you will achieve better results by applying the Edible Image®
while the ice cream is soft, then freezing it hard.
- If the Edible Image® "bubbles" during
freezing, GENTLY pat or tap (DO NOT RUB) the image down with clean, dry
hands.

Frequently asked questions |
- What types and brands of frosting do
Edible Images work best with?
Edible Images
work best on buttercream type frostings. Even frozen cakes work great.
For whipped cream cakes, it is recommended that you fill your cake with
whipped cream, but frost the top with buttercream.
- Will the Edible Images meld into the
frosting that has set for a day or more?
If
the frosting on the cake appears dry or crusty, apply a
fine mist of water onto the cake top before applying the
Edible Image. Do not wet the cake top too much, or the colors may
run!
- What is the shelf life of the Edible
Images and how should I store them?
Edible
Images have a shelf life of 6 months if kept in their sealed, ziplock
bag. The Edible Images DO NOT require refrigeration and can be stored at
room temperature. In areas with high humidity and high temperature it is
recommended to refrigerate or freeze Edible Image at least 30 minutes
prior to application. |
